What does Scientology have to offer after all?

In one word: Integrity.

Integrity is defined as:

  1. The state or quality of being entire or complete; wholeness; entireness; unbroken state; as, the integrity of an empire or territory. –Sir T. More. [1913 Webster]
  2. Moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive; — used especially with reference to the fulfillment of contracts, the discharge of agencies, trusts, and the like; uprightness; rectitude. [1913 Webster]
  3. Unimpaired, unadulterated, or genuine state; entire correspondence with an original condition; purity. [1913 Webster]

The Scientology technology will give you more integrity. And integrity is a gradient scale. It goes on up perhaps forever. Delivered correctly, Scientology will make you more you.

The Church on the other hand is mostly offering hope. The carrot is kept out in front of the parishioners for as longest as possible. Enough for the church to squeeze out contributions year after year. And more arbitraries are added every year – The Congress lectures, The Basics, Mandatory raising of IAS status, Ideal Org donations, Super Power donations, Library campaign, etc.

The most fanatical Scientologists I’ve seen are those who have done the least Bridge progress (spiritual journey in Scientology) and has the least integrity. That combination is the most dangerous. With little personal gain, with little integrity and with lots of faith and hope for what could come, they are adamant that nothing in the Church could possibly be wrong.

Hope is a powerful concept. It’s a great driving force. It can also be exploited. The more hope the person has above his integrity, the more others can take advantage of that person without him leaving. The hope for an eternity is the strongest there is. It may explain why Sea Org members will take a lot of abuse before they snap to their senses and integrity goes in.

I believe David Miscavige is actively preventing OTs from becoming truly OT by harassing them to the point of no spare time, no money and no integrity – and thus no opposition to his rule. Some slip through the net, gain their integrity fully and breaks the spell.

More OTs are going to action as we speak.

    A valuable posting.

Being OT is not having a number beside your name, like OT III or VIII or X or whatever.

Maybe a better definition of OT is having that whole integrity, knowingness of self, and the ability to view and know Truth, Truth for oneself, according to one’s own observation.

Maybe in the end it is just being “completely whole”.

        Very nice post, Geir.
Actually, in my point of view, one of the best I’ve ever read from you. 🙂
Let us all have an increasingly joyous day with lots of integrity.

I think the Scientology tech is not so much responsible for the successes/gains Scientologists have as is their expectations, coupled with their beliefs in the tech, of what will happen to them if they dutifully follow the tech. In other words, if you tell someone that they are going to become more extroverted or have much more personal integrity after completing some long series of exercises, then by the end of the long process (so long as they believe the process will truly work), they will _make themselves_ more extroverted / have more integrity, without realizing it since they believe it is simply “the tech at work.”
Perhaps Geir you should consider that it was your own hard work and expectations that made you who you are today…and not so much the work of Hubbard.

    • 2009-09-24 at 02:57

To much speculation for me. Try Scientology and see for yourself.

Geir, while in the CO$ did you ever experience any conscious antagonistic actions by any administrators towards you while experiencing wins in general or OT abilities/phenomena in particular?
I read a story of a freezoner experiencing this on ESMB and it peaked my curioisity.

    • 2009-09-24 at 03:00

      I didn’t experience that.

Yes, it seems that people are very curious about going up the bridge… what will happen? How will I change etc? There’s hope since you don’t know the results yet. Those who have made it up to OT VIII at least know the results so I guess they’re more stable about what might come next.

Geir, what do you think about OT IX and X? I’ve read that FreeZoners have them and some are auditing on them? Do you know anything about it? Any interesting gains? They’re supposed to be lenghty levels.

    • 2009-09-24 at 03:03

I do not think FreeZone have the OT IX and X as in the CoS. They have another set of OT levels made by the late Bill Robertson – but that is a whole different set of levels.

Ok, An OT VIII said he had lined up his OT 9&10 outside of CoS, and I don’t think he was talking about Bill Robertson Org.

I think integrity is one of the most important qualities there is to improve – it never ends. But why is so many staff and public showing so little integrity – especially when they see flagrant breaks to, for example, the code of honour?

    I have two answers:
    1. Lack of guts or courage.
You must have a lot of guts to keep your integrity in a suppressive or negative environment.

    2. Operating on false data.
CoS deliver a corrupted version of the bridge – hence they do not have a bridge to freedom and can not blackmail persons on the basis that they will lose their freedom or eternity.
There are several persons and groups that deliver auditing and training just now in the freezoone. There is a choice.

I think it is important that we understand that nobody needs a permission from anybody to apply scientology wherever we want.
Also I want to point out that the bridge is not completed. LRH never stopped researching and therefore there is much work left to those who have the capacity, guts and integrity to do so.

I got into Scientology to be a better person and learn about spirituality and so forth and got tons out of it. As I expanded as a being I became aware that all was not good with my own Church and that they seemed to want to hide it from me as if I “didn’t need to know”. I am getting active and talking to my friends about these abuses on the gradient that they can experience it. It is shocking to me how some Scientologists want to keep their heads in the sand. Thanks for your persistence Geir!

“I believe David Miscavige is actively preventing OTs from becoming truly OT by harassing them to the point of no spare time, no money and no integrity – and thus no opposition to his rule. Some slip through the net, gain their integrity fully and breaks the spell.”
I think that the real essence of what happens is in your statement above. I am a New OTVlll myself and I did experience a great increase in what I consider to be my personal integrity, but I found that I was restrained by endless Sec Checks, wrong indications, constant badgering to execute “command intention” when I would have just done it myself anyways, unnecessary threats incongruous to the level on the Tone Scale I was at, not allowed to exercise my own self determinism if it had something to do with someone’s agenda-of-the-day. Very unnerving for an OT who is supposed to be at the top of the bridge to “Total Freedom”.One is constantly being driven into “being effect”, “must be controlled” while knowing one is supposed to “be cause”. That’s “freedom”?

However, I must honestly ask myself, as ExKane asked you in #4 post above..was it my own hard work and expectations that made me who I am today…and not so much the work of Hubbard? It’s an interesting question.

      Rebel Too,
To answer your question maybe, I recall a tape, The Road to Truth. I listened to this the first time as the very first person to ever do the Hubbard Personal Ethics and Integrity course at Flag. I recall a datum from that tape: all the truth you will ever find is in you.

    Rebel Too,

I agree the “was it my own hard work and expectations that made me who I am today…and not so much the work of Hubbard?” is an interesting question.

I believe there are people who wants to improve themselves but don’t have the exact path of how to do it. I think Scientology can offer such a path. There are other paths as well of course. I’m pretty sure you can come a long way without Scientology, many people have (Bill Gates, Michael Jackson, Barack Obama, even Dalai Lama etc) but the big question is this OT-stuff, being able to exteriorize, communicate with thetans telepathically, whole track recall etc. IF those abilities can be gained through Scientology (perhaps higher than OT VIII) it would be very unique and a very good reason to continue to work for it.

I’m not that far on the bridge, but I’ve had lots of gains from just reading books, using touch assists, some auditing etc so I think it’s worth working for, based on that alone.

Scientology provides a way to handle life the way I see it. Hubbard developed a nomenclature and instructions for the everyday problems of life.

But every being is still responsible for his own life. I don’t think anybody should ever think that any religion/philosophy would do “the work” for them. That has to be done by the individual himself.

      H,
It’s not just these sort of ‘flashy’ abilities that the route in Scientology is about. The source of human aberration has remained hidden and not known. You don’t read about it and then it’s gone. Nope. It’s booby-trapped, double folded, reversed, placed here, there, and such that many, many very wise men have been foiled in their attempts to unravel this thing.

LRH’s breakthroughs are the first time it has been accomplished. Any who have honestly and sincerely gotten through the maze, will attest, this isn’t just another late night self-help infomercial.

You’ll find out youself if you persist to the freedom that is ineffable really, until you arrive there.

        2009-09-25 at 08:37

Agree. But I will have to evaluate every step by myself before I can make any conclusions. Magoo said her OT-levels didn’t give her too much, so did Pattinson, while others talk about great wins. There was a Scientologist that said something interesting: “You already have to be quite aware to make in Scientology”. Perhaps it’s true.

        • Hubbardianen
          2009-09-25 at 08:39

Sentence error above should read: “You already have to be quite aware to make it in Scientology.”

        • 2009-09-26 at 02:53

I got plenty out of my OT levels as you may know.

          • Hubbardianen
            2009-09-26 at 04:50

That’s actually great to hear. Focus is sometimes perhaps too much on the failures. Media seems to love when people leave CoS (the more famous the better) so you’re a great ambassador for the philosophy.

        • Jim Logan
          2009-09-26 at 12:56

I’m getting more than I ever thought possible out of my OT levels, and I started out pretty aware. At the beginning of an article on scientology-cult, the Call to OTs one, there is a brief description of some of the results possible on the OT levels. Those are presently very real to me.

The way to find out for yourself is to honestly seek spiritual gain in Scientology if that’s what you are doing it for.

It’s not that these ‘flashy’ abilities aren’t nice to have either 🙂

Geir didn’t you get my telepathic signal to put my response just after Jim’s response #20?

You guys who made it up to OT VIII must have at least like a thousand auditing hours (probably more) behind you. That’s A LOT and you, if anybody, should be able to talk about wins such as a more stable state, more harmonized, better memory (?), ability to locate free thetans, exteriorize etc or having lost “phobias” like vertigo or whatever…

I’m also thinking the progress is on a gradient scale, which makes it not as noticable, compared to “jumping” from WOG directly to OT VIII in a second. It seems as if an auditing session blow you out, and then you return to a slightly higher you? So step by step…

From a critical point of view, there’s a probability that the energy you blow in a session is something the PC has created by himself during the session, that would mean no charge really blows compared to before and after a session. The only thing that blows is the energy created by the PC during session. Compare to digging up a pit and then filling it again. The “evidence” against this is that the heavier incident, the more charge is blown, which indicates that something is stored proportional to “pain”.

I’ve blown experiences from this life time and WOW… one of them was really unbelievably strong so something is definitely blowing away though, that I am very sure of. According to Hubbard it’s engrams from the reactive mind.

Geir, thank you so much for all your communications! And for hosting these conversations on your blog.

I was a Scientologist for 5 years (2003-2008), got through HRD on the grade chart. Did 3 special rundowns at Flag (Dynamic Sort Out, Profession Intensive and Havingness RD) and completed the Interiorization RD at my CL V org.

I was also on staff at my Org for 3 years. I loved my fellow staff members. I received significant gains from my auditing. Yet after 5 years, entering Scio in 2003 with no debt I am now $200,000 in debt what with donations to the IAS, the Ideal Org Building, training packages, etc. I was so keyed-out about saving the planet and believing that I and we as a group were invincible, that I made my credit creak. Now, I work ALL the time just to handle the situation.

The severity of the situation I put myself into after just 5 years in Scientology made me take a long hard look at everything. The net result is that I am out of the church.

It did not help that right before I left the DofP at an upper org gave me an R-factor that I would have to redo my bridge from the Purif forward. This did NOT indicate. My husband encouraged me to do a Vol Exam and communicate my response to the CS, so I did. The DofP responded that she had no recollection or record that this R-Factor was ever given to me. CrAzY mAkiNg! I had two witnesses, my husband and the registrar, otherwise I would have begun to question my sanity. BPC 😀

When I left, I refused to look at the internet during the first 6 months out. I did not want my decision to be influenced by someone else’s “enturbulative” opinions. So fine. Three weeks out I realized I could think for myself. 5 weeks out I realized I could trust myself. 6 months out I felt that the organization as a whole acted like a bunch of mind fucking vampires! Then I began to look at the internet.

Based on what I find to be convincing testimony of people I respect, like you Geir, and Marty and Thoughtful and so many others because of the honesty and reality in your stories — I now understand the cause of many outpoints I observed while in: the church is directed by an SP, David Miscavage.

I had been afraid to tell my story, as simple as it is. It is crazy that I would be afraid of my “church.” So I break free from this fear by communicating here.

I wish I could reach my friends in the church whom I love. I want to enlist them in making it right for everyone. But for the moment I don’t want to become a target. I am certain the DSA at my local org would be alerted if I communicate to staff. LRH says, “The only crime is being there and communicating!” Maybe this is the next chain I will throw off. 😀

In closing, I have for much of my life had the ability to see “free thetans.” I find there are many benevolent wise beings who want to help us expand. It is important to know that perceiving these beings is a capability not limited people who have gotten though the OT levels.

There are moments these days when I feel as if I could dissolve into a dimension of brilliant joyous light. I am deeply, profoundly, vastly happy. I am in love with the whole crazy gorgeous universe. Is this not what we all seek?

      Gaiagnotic,
My friend, the credit card debt you speak of is diametrically opposed to L.Ron Hubbard’s finance policies. It is utterly illogical that in order to gain spiritual freedom you must become a slave to a bank. That alone says a great deal of David Miscavige’s intention. I suggest to any other Scientologist that they do not acquiesce to the pressure to become slavishly fixed to a job, the bank, or any other slavery, to gain spiritual freedom. It’s an idiotic outpoint. Just one more on DM’s list of crazy irrationalities.
